Quick Relief after Knee Replacement Surgery, Recovery within 4-5 days

A visionary in Healthcare, Dr. Narendra Vaidya has been instrumental in establishing and spearheading the largest chain of Advanced Super speciality Orthopaedic Hospitals in India with an aim to provide technologically advanced and affordable Orthopaedic Care to the people with Compassionate care. Dr. Vaidya is the pioneer of Robotic Knee Replacement Surgery  in India.

With the most modern technology at Lokmanya Hospitals, our surgical team is giving a patient a quick sort of a relief after the knee replacement operation/ surgery. The rehabilitation period is very fast. The patient is admitted one day prior to the surgery and the surgery is done together. Both the joints are operated in the same sitting. So, the patient doesn't have to get admitted two times. He doesn't have to go pre operative checkups two times. Doesn't have to take antibiotics twice. The time physiotherapy is also saved.

The surgery itself takes about 25-30 minutes for one side. So, within an hour both the joints are operated, both sides are operated. After the operation, patient is kept one day under surgical recovery.

The anaesthesia which is used is just spinal anaesthesia and epidural anaesthesia so patient can actually check with this during the operation also.

After the surgery the patient is given anaesthesia that is epidural pain sort of a controlled system by pain pumps. So, the patient doesn't have pain after the surgery. This is why patients start moving the legs and start doing physiotherapy almost immediately after the surgery.

The same day in the evening or the next day early morning, the patients stand on their legs and moving about in the room. After 2nd or 3rd day, patients walk in the hospital and is ready for discharge. But, generally, we keep the patient here so that, you know, the patient doesn't have to face inconvenience after going home. So, the average stay in the hospital is about 4-5 days after getting both the knee joints replaced.

During that time, patients go to toilet by themselves. They may use the walker for initial 2-3 days but later on it's not required. And then they are able to climb some steps and attend their own physical activities.

So, it has really become express care.
